If you feel the need to step out of your resort and explore the city, you have to start in the main plaza of Acapulco, Zocalo. It gives you a nice reprieve from the scorching hot sunshine with beautiful trees that shade the square and stunningly colored ornamental plants. On Sunday afternoons, the bandstand in Zocalo is hopping with musical and dance acts to get locals and tourists grooving to the tunes. Spread out right behind the must see square are the historical neighborhoods of the city, and the harbor, El Malecon where extravagant yachts set sail from every day.
Make sure you have your beach bag packed as you set out as you won’t want to miss one of the most famous beaches of Acapulco, Playa Condesa. This isn’t just a beach, but a major destination with a plethora of restaurants, lively bars, and bass pumping discotheques. You’re going to have to pack an interesting array of options in your beach bag to make sure you have all your bases covered for an adventure here.
If you are looking for a more serene spot, Laguna de Coyuca can provide just that. This 28 square mile fresh water lagoon provides the quintessential tropical landscape. It has the gently swaying palm trees with the crystal clear water as a backdrop. Hop on one of the boat tours that show the bird sanctuary located here. You will see birds of quite a unique feather, in an array of brightly colored hues that you can only find in a tropical getaway.
You should know that although the name for beach is playa in Spanish, Acapulco is anything but played out.
