Common Travel Mistakes and How To Avoid Them
Travel is not new and neither are the most common mistakes made by travelers. Don’t become a victim simply because you didn’t learn from the mistakes of others. Know before you go and make the most of your journeys by learning from the mistakes of others.
Forgetting to notify your financial institution – There is little more irritating than going to use your credit or debit card while you are traveling, only to find out that it has had a hold put on it due to suspicious activity. While this is a splendid feature if your card is stolen, when you are traveling, it is very inconvenient. Don’t let this happen to you, make sure you report your trip to your credit card company or your bank before you go.
Overpacking – Not only can this get expensive, but it can get heavy and inconvenient as well. Make a list when you pack, pack only what you need and leave the rest behind when you travel.
Not knowing about your destination – Part of the fun of your travels are learning about new things, new cultures and seeing the most unique features however, you can quickly have any vacation spoiled by not getting to know a little about the rules, laws and language of an area.
Not booking ahead – This can be especially problematic during the busier travel times. Traveling during the holidays or during the hot seasons without reservations can see you left in the cold. Book ahead of time to ensure that you have a place to lay your head and leave other aspects of your journey up to chance.
Not having the right paperwork – From your passport to your license, it is imperative that you plan ahead. Make sure you license is all you need if you plan on driving, be sure you passport is in good shape and is good for at least 6 months past your trip date or if you haven’t gotten a passport and will be traveling abroad, that you get your passport early.
Other common mistakes include not knowing your cell phone coverage, not having the right currency or missing your flights because of poor planning. Be sure that you plan for the worst and then enjoy the benefits of being prepared when you travel.
