Make your plans in advance

Having a hotel already booked in advance and having one that recommends a cab service to you can benefit you and help you save money.

Know where you are going

If you know that it should only take a certain amount of time to get to your destination, don’t let your cabbie tell you otherwise. Often those unscrupulous enough to try and weasel more money out of your pocket will offer a “shortcut” which may take longer, adding to your rate.

Choose only cabs with prominent markings

If it is not well marked, avoid it. Those cabs which are monitored and controlled by higher authorities will have the markings to prove it. Stick to them or find alternate means of transportation, don’t ever get in an unmarked car.

Use local currency

Having to figure out an exchange rate on the side could lead to you losing out in the end. Unless you have the ability to calculate the rate difference accurately, you may get the short end of the deal. Therefore, it is always easier to carry a certain amount of local currency with you in order to avoid having to do extra calculations on the fly.
