Originally open in 1980 this eatery quickly built a reputation for providing fresh, homemade meals in a quaint setting. Owner Marth Boggs began managing the place in 1993 and took over ownership of it in 2009. She grows a large portion of the vegetables used in the restaurant on her own farm. The seasonal produce influences the daily offerings, which consists of three seasonal menus. The menus allow her to focus on regionally-sourced and inspired meals, prepared in simple ways. Her menus include something for everyone in your party. From meat eaters and vegetarians to those who chose to eat a health-conscious diet, diners will find something for them on the Bistro’s menu.
The Plaid Apron
In May of 2011, the owners and chefs of the Plaid Apron opened their doors to the public. The restaurant grew from a desire to start a business together in Knoxville. Owner Drew McDonald has both an extensive and varied background in the food industry. Together with his wife and co-owner Bonni, they found that they wanted to provide the residents of Knoxville with a dining experience influenced by what Drew had learned in his years in the industry. The result is The Plaid Apron. The brunch menu includes omelets, frittatas, a sourdough French toast, burgers and a grilled cheese made with three different kinds of cheese served on an herbed focaccia bread. This is a menu and location worthy of exploration.
