Big Bend National Park Whether heading for the Grand Canyon for a week long adventure or to the beach for a weekend getaway, the U.S. has something for every family. If you are planning on enjoying a great family vacation this summer, take a look at some helpful tips to help you make the most of the time you have.

Stay clean in the car – No one likes to be dirty and if you are like most family travelers, there will likely be snacks in the car (especially if you enjoy content children). Make sure you have plenty of wet wipes, a wet washcloth in a plastic baggy will work well also. Also make sure to have hand sanitizer and paper towels or cloth towels as well to help minimize the mess.

Pack smart the first time and avoid repacking – There is very little more annoying than having to unpack the car 40 times to get the same item, packed wrong the first 39 times. Plan carefully how you pack and save yourself from the hassle of packing and repacking every time you forget an item you want while traveling.

Pack a bag for the trip and a bag for when you get to your destination – This will save you from having to get into the big suitcases along the way. Pack just the items you will need while traveling such as a change of clothes, something to do in the car and any other forms of entertainment and relaxation while you drive.

Plan plenty of stops along the way – Even adults have a hard time sitting for too long. Plan your trip to include ample stops for stretching along the way. Map the route you will be taking and plan a few hours of the trip walking around, seeing some sites and getting out of the car.

Offer the kids incentives for being good along the way – This may include movie watching time, special snack treats such as cheese or chips, or even small toys which may not be expensive, but they are still fun.

Pack plenty of food and drinks for the road and be sure you can get to them – A cooler filled with bottles of frozen water and juice boxes and healthy snacks is a great way to make the drive more enjoyable. Try not to make sugar a main ingredient in snack time while on the road however, the kids are likely to be restless enough without adding extra sugar to their diet.
